Initial assessment sessions typically last 60-70 minutes, providing us with comprehensive insight into your running mechanics and goals. During this time, we conduct several key evaluations:
– Comprehensive movement assessment and running gait analysis
– Strength and flexibility testing
– Detailed review of running history and goals
– Development of initial treatment strategy
Follow-up sessions are usually 50-60 minutes, focusing on hands-on therapeutic intervention and progress monitoring. Each session builds upon previous progress while adapting to your evolving needs and response to treatment.
Our services are designed for runners across all experience levels and goals. From beginners taking their first steps into running to experienced marathoners looking to break personal records, we provide specialized support for every running journey. We regularly work with recreational runners seeking to increase their weekly mileage, competitive athletes preparing for races, and runners returning from injury who want to rebuild their strength and confidence. Our expertise particularly benefits those experiencing performance plateaus or seeking to prevent future injuries through proper form and training techniques.
Our evidence-based approach typically yields measurable improvements in running performance. Most athletes see initial changes in their running economy within 4-6 weeks of implementing our recommendations. Common performance gains include:
– Reduced oxygen cost at race pace
– Improved lactate threshold speeds
– More efficient stride mechanics
– Enhanced power output during hill sessions
– Better maintenance of form during fatigue
The magnitude of improvement varies based on your current training status and goals, but we regularly see runners achieving 30-60 second improvements in 5K times and 3-5 minute improvements in half marathon times through optimized mechanics and training.
We use a combination of objective and subjective measures to track your performance improvements. Quantitative metrics include:
– Running economy at various speeds
– Ground contact time and flight time
– Stride length and frequency at race pace
– Power output during running-specific movements
We also track training data like workout paces, recovery metrics, and race results to ensure our interventions are translating to real-world performance gains. Regular video analysis allows us to document changes in running mechanics and ensure consistency of form across different intensities and distances.
Michigan is a Direct Access State. Meaning you do not need a referral to book an evaluation. You can walk into or call any physical therapy clinic and book right now. However, in Michigan, patients have the ability to access physical therapy services without a physician’s prescription for the first 21 days. Then for continued care they need a referral to receive physical therapy services or submit to insurance for reimbursement. Most physical therapy clinics will do this on your behalf or communicate with you on how to go about doing this. Many doctors offices will fax over a referral after a phone call letting them know care is starting. The purpose of this Direct Access Law is to improve access and speed of care after injury, yet still ensure the health team is all working together for your best interest.
Yes! Below are some great questions we will be asking you in the appointment. Thinking about these will ensure you are not caught off guard and have some time to think about them. They help direct the evaluation and get to the root cause.
– What time does the pain get better or worse
– What activities help resolve pain and what irritates it
– What kind of sleeping, eating, and water habits do you currently practice
– What is your current pain management routine
– What other areas of your body also are bothering you?
Think about these questions and that will help us get to the root cause faster.
All sessions last 50-60 minutes. In rare instances the therapist will recommend a 30 min appointment or recovery visit. Generally, we want to spend the first piece of the session providing high quality manual and mobility treatment and then getting into some workouts. When people are in too much pain to move or nearing the end of the care, we can shift to 30 min appointments. This is done to ensure we are maximizing your time and resources as you invest in yourself to develop the capacity to experience life.
This is one of the biggest reasons we designed Revolution Rehab the way we did. We are not just concerned about your care during your session. When you start physical therapy with us, you have unlimited access to your physical therapist. Text, email or call whenever you have a question or concern. If you happen to text or call late at night when we are binge watching the next Netflix drama, we will get back to you early the next morning. You don’t need to wait an entire week till the next appointment to get answers to simple questions. And after discharge? Same rule applies. If we can answer it in a text or quick call we want to continue to provide our community with that touch point. There may be times we recommend you drop in for a quick session or review. Otherwise we want to not only help you return but keep you moving.
We are a private pay clinic. We do take HSA/ FSA and can provide a Superbill for you to submit to your insurance company. We will even help you go through that process to submit. Many of our clients can receive up to 50-80% reimbursement. We remove the insurance “Middleman” because we are after the BEST possible outcomes. We understand insurance premiums are expensive and people want to use that when possible. However, in today’s insurance world, most people never hit their deductibles and end up paying for care anyways while also letting insurance dictate what is covered. Our only goal is to help you develop the Capacity to Experience Life.
Depends on your situation and motivation to change. Many people who are in serious pain or highly motivated may see one of our therapist 3-4x/ week. While we have some clients who see us on a monthly to quarterly basis. Generally speaking, when someone has an injury 1-2x/ week is a average starting point. This could go on for a couple weeks to months depending on severity, progress, and situation. At your evaluation, we will help design a plan that fits within your schedule, situation, and life.
Every person’s situation is unique; therefore the amount of time needed to reach goals varies. With commitment and dedication from both you and your physical therapist, you can expect to start seeing results within a few weeks. The more positive lifestyle changes you make, the faster your progress will be!
Yes! And if not, then be able to get that information from google or point you in the direction of someone who can help. All medical providers have specialties in their field but have something in common. An ability to understand the human body and communicate between each other. This gives us the base knowledge to learn and advise within the healthcare system. one of the more limiting factors when getting answers about our health & wellness is time. Most medical providers cannot give you enough time inside the system to discuss what is going on. Physical therapist are well positioned to have the knowledge from their doctoral program and the time to spend with you discussing any questions you may have about your body.
This is one of the bigger misconceptions about the physical therapy profession. No pain no gain mindset is for the performance world. Or when you are lifting/ pushing your body. There is a chance you feel pain during a session, because you are already in pain. That is why you are showing up for therapy. However, the immediate goal in the beginning weeks is to provide relief. If done well, you should experience relief from your sessions. Eventually that relief builds and we can transition back into the lifting and performance world. Where we discuss the ideas of no pain no gain.
This will be a conversation between you and your physical therapist. You don’t have to just see a physical therapist while you are injured or in pain. Seeing a physical therapist annually to a couple times a year, is a great way to stay on top of your health and wellness. Similar to that of seeing a dentist or doctor. At Revolution Rehab, we don’t want to just get rid of the pain. Many times this is when it can return. Was want to help you blow past that limitation and build the capacity to experience life. When to make those transitions and “stop” seeing a physical therapist will depend on your goals, lifestyle, and needs. All of which can be determine in that conversation.
